Building Environmental Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods
Climate Change Program

In Samburu County, climate change is no longer a future threat—it is an immediate reality that deeply reshapes pastoralist ecosystems, local food security, and community well-being. Recurrent droughts and unpredictable weather patterns require bold, localized adaptation strategies. At Hope for Samburu Communities (HFSC), we design community-driven solutions that bridge traditional ecological knowledge with modern climate-smart techniques to protect our landscapes and livelihoods

We actively engage communities in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts while addressing the cascading health and nutritional impacts related to environmental shocks. By investing in vital water infrastructure, supporting sustainable agriculture and livestock practices, and protecting local biodiversity through strategic conservation, our program empowers vulnerable households to withstand climate disruptions and build a self-sufficient, climate-resilient future.

Our Climate Change Strategic Pillars

Water Security & Climate-Smart Livelihoods

Investing in critical water infrastructure and promoting water conservation to sustain community projects. We actively equip women and youth to diversify their incomes through agroecological kitchen gardening, sustainable apiculture, and participation in local financial networks to cushion households against livestock losses.

Sustainable Rangelands & Agricultural Practices

Reviving and restoring degraded grazing lands by blending indigenous governance with modern conservation techniques, such as rotational grazing, pasture reseeding, and contour bunding. We support sustainable livestock management and agroforestry to secure resilient food systems across the county.

Biodiversity Conservation & Community Adaptation

Partnering with local conservancies to protect biodiversity while running inclusive, intergenerational dialogue spaces. These platforms address the direct impacts of climate change on community nutrition and mental health, utilizing cultural gathering traditions as collaborative networks for long-term climate action.
